Natale Saliceti
Natale Saliceti (also Natalis Saliceti , born November 8, 1714 in Oletta , † February 21, 1789 in Rome ) was an Italian medic , secret chamberlain and personal physician of Pope Pius VI.
Life
Saliceti attended the Jesuit college in Bastia and then went to Rome in 1735 to continue training in medicine. After completing his studies, he entered the great Roman hospital of Santo Spirito in Sassia as an assistant doctor and in 1748 became one of the main doctors of the hospital. In 1756, Natale Saliceti was appointed doctor to the papal family . In 1758 he took over the chair for anatomy and surgery at the University of La Sapienza and was accepted into the Roman medical college.
Pope Clement XIV believed in the last months of his pontificate that members of the Jesuit order wanted to poison him. After his death on September 22nd, 1774 there was the assumption that, since Clemens XIV supposedly wanted to tighten the Jesuit ban with a bull , he was killed the night before it was signed. Natale Saliceti, together with Pope Pasquale Adinolfi's personal physician and other doctors, some of whom were international, carried out the autopsy the next day, which, as a published result, did not reveal any evidence of any external influence. The original of the test result was deposited with the Maggiordomo and Prefect of the Apostolic Palace, Cardinal Giovanni Archinto .
In 1775 Saliceti became the secret chamberlain and personal physician of Pope Pius VI.
On May 1, 1779 Natalis Saliceti with the academic surname Caesareus III. under the matriculation no. 830 admitted as a member of the Leopoldina .
