Natalia Alexandrovna Kachuevskaya

Natalja Alexandrovna Katschujewskaja ( Russian: Наталья Александровна Качуевская , born February 22, 1922 in Moscow ; † November 20, 1942 at Chulchuta , Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ) was a Soviet medical instructor .

biography

After graduating from school in 1940, Kachuevskaya studied at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts and was appointed secretary of the Academy's Komsomol Committee.

In 1941 she took part in the construction of fortifications in the suburbs of Moscow and organized the trips of the actors who accompanied the troops to the front. In 1942 she married Pavel Katschuijewski, the leader of a partisan group, and completed training courses to become a sniper and a nurse . In August she was assigned to an infantry division that joined the southern Stalingrad Front , where she worked as a medical instructor in the 105th Guards Rifle Regiment.

On November 19, the first day of Operation Uranus , Kachuevskaya was stationed near the village of Khulchuta and provided medical aid to 70 soldiers and officers that day. The next day she stayed in a trench with a large group of wounded to wait for them to be removed. It came to an attack by German machine gunner . Kachuevskaya turned fire on himself to protect the wounded. When the attackers got too close, she blew them up and herself with a hand grenade . The wounded were finally rescued by a Soviet company. Kachuevskaya was buried on a hill nearby. In 1961 her remains were transferred to a mass grave for fallen soldiers of the 28th Army in Yashkul .

legacy

The minor planet (2015) Kachuevskaya is named after her. There is a monument dedicated to Kachuevskaya in Izmailovo Park . Some streets in Moscow, Volgograd and Astrakhan are named after her. On May 12, 1997 she was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation "for courage and heroism in the fight against the Nazi invaders".
