Natascha (comic)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Natasha

Natascha (originally Natacha ) is the main character in the Belgian comic series of the same name . It was invented by the Belgian draftsman François Walthéry , who has been drawing the series since 1970 and is supported by changing copywriters and co-draftsmen. The comic belongs to the genres of comedy , crime and adventure . Natascha is a stewardess for the airline BARDAF. Her regular colleagues include the steward Walter and the flight captain Roger Mayday.

Figures of the series

  • Natasha

Although she is actually just a stewardess, she usually secretly commands the planes. She is also a passionate hobby detective and adventurer. Her appearance was inspired by a childhood friend of Walthéry named Celine alias Linette. At the beginning of each volume she is described as follows: "Natascha is young, attractive and independent. She has all the characteristics of an open-minded, self-confident girl who does not let anyone or anything undermine her".

  • Walter

He always tries, but unsuccessfully, to demonstrate his superiority to Natascha . But if she really needs his help, he is always there. He is a steward by profession and therefore a colleague of Natascha , and also a passionate comic and jazz fan. The first name comes from the first child of the same name of the first Natascha-Texters Gos. The name also suggests that Walter is Francois Walthéry's comic alter ego ; both share many habits and personality traits. In the story Natascha und die MickyMäuse , in which Walthéry himself plays, he and Walter are also dressed completely identically.

  • Roger Mayday / Captain Turbo

The flight captain is mostly on the road with Natascha and Walter . He is always cool, knows everything and has seen a lot. His constant references to it are a running gag . Sometimes this appears in the variant "I have not seen this before".

While he was still called Roger Mayday in the Bastei publication , his name is Captain Turbo or Kapitän Turbo from the Feest publication .

His copilot Legrain is at his side .

Release history

In Belgium / France

The series Natascha was pre-published in the Belgian comic magazine Spirou from 1970 to 1988 and then published in album form by the Belgian publisher Dupuis . In 1989, Walthéry moved his series to the Monegasque publisher Marsu Productions , where the series was published until 2010. In the meantime Walthéry has returned to Dupuis. A total of 22 regular albums and 9 special volumes have been published.

From 2007 to 2010 the Dupuis-Verlag published the regular Natascha albums published by him again under the name Les intégrals as hardcover anthologies. The four volumes also contain short stories not included in the regular original albums , lots of background information and reprints of Spirou covers. In addition, in 2014 Dupuis began to publish the albums published by Marsu Productions as hardcover anthologies.

In German-speaking countries

In the 1970s, "Natascha" appeared sporadically under the name "Katja" in Kauka publications in Germany. For example, stories from the series were printed in the paperback series "FF-Super Spass" and in the "Primo" series.

From 1984 to 1986, Bastei-Verlag made an attempt to publish the series in Germany. The publisher did not follow the chronology of the original volumes. The albums were also made without hand lettering and only intended for press distribution . Overall, the publisher has published the original volumes 1 to 4 and 6 to 10 in German. The series ended in 1987.

In 1988 Reiner-Feest-Verlag continued publication with Volume 11, but also discontinued the series in 1989 after the publication of Volume 13.

In 1991, Carlsen Verlag took on the series and published the series from volume 14 onwards. At the same time, he began to republish the first 13 volumes, beginning with album 1. After the sales of the albums fell short of the publisher's expectations, the venture was ended again after the publication of volumes 5 and 15 in 1993.

It was not until 2004 that the series was revived by Eckart Schott Verlag with the label Salleck Publications and volumes 17 to 19 were published. In 2007, Salleck Publications closed the publication gap with the publication of Volume 16. After another long break, Volume 20 was not published as a normal and preferred edition until 2013. In January 2013, Salleck Publications announced in its forum that the previously missing volumes were planned 20 and 21 to be published in 2013. However, only volume 20 has actually been published. In addition to volumes 21 and 22, the individual volumes of Natascha, especially the original volume “Natascha & Co” still published by Dupuis and containing many short stories, still need to be published in Germany. However, the short stories from this volume have now appeared almost entirely in German in the volumes of the complete edition. In addition, several short stories from the album "Nostalgia" have been published in Volume 5 of the complete edition.

In 2011 Salleck Publications started a complete chronological edition in extensive anthologies. This is the German edition of the Dupuis anthologies Les intégrals .

Special features of the series

The series has four special features. On the one hand, Walthéry constantly lets comic artists and scenarists appear as minor characters in caricatures, sometimes under their real names. The highlight is the story "Natascha and the Mickey Mice", in which all passengers of a hijacked airplane are comic artists or cartoonists. On the other hand, comic characters by other cartoonists such as Tanguy and Laverdure , Betty Page or the Smurfs occasionally appear. Walthéry also repeatedly integrates celebrities such as Peter Falk alias Inspector Columbo or Arnold Schwarzenegger into his stories. Even if not prominent, Walthéry's son Nicholas also has an appearance (under his name) in the story "Natascha and the Dinosaurs". After all, three Natascha stories ( Natascha and the Mona Lisa , The Big Bet and The Steel Pants ) take place at the beginning of the 20th century. Here Natascha is replaced by her grandmother and Walter by his grandfather, a pilot; both grandparents look just like their grandchildren.
