Stellmach works with images and text as well as with a variety of media, including installations and happenings . Her socially critical practice is dedicated to the investigation of human weaknesses as well as the topics of intimacy and transformation. In Stellmach's often provocative works, personal and biographical aspects are mixed with pop cultural, historical and fictional aspects.

“At first Stellmach's works seem delicate and personal, more like a family album, but they soon lead us into darker realms - violence, war, suicide, death. Using a range of media - film, photography, prose, and installation - she invites us to participate in a taboo, an inexpressible subject, around which she constructs a narrative. These stories are supported by documentary evidence, apparently, but their credibility is deliberately questioned. "

- Amy Barrett-Lennard, Director, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts , Australia

Natascha Stellmach organized a happening in Kassel on August 3, 2012, curated by Critical Art Ensemble ., Participants of dOCUMENTA (13) .
