The Kazakh National Bank ( Kazakh Қазақстан Республикасының Ұлттық Банкі , Russian Национальный банк Республики Казахстан ) is the central bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan . Its headquarters are in Nur-Sultan .

General

There is a two-tier banking system in Kazakhstan. It is the most developed banking system in Central Asia. The National Bank is the upper tier, the other banks are the lower tier of this system.

The National Bank acts independently within its legal powers. It coordinates its activities with the Kazakh government, takes into account its economic policy and supports its implementation, provided that this does not conflict with its main functions and its own economic policy. It represents the interests of the Republic of Kazakhstan in relations with central banks, domestic and foreign, as well as international banks and other financial and credit organizations.

The head of the National Bank is appointed and dismissed by the Kazakh President with the approval of the Senate. Danijar Aqyshev has been the chairman of the National Bank since 2015 .

history

Kazakhstan declared its independence from the Soviet Union on December 16, 1991 . The Kazakh National Bank was established on April 13, 1993.

Tenge coins

The Kazakh tenge was introduced as the national currency on November 15, 1993, replacing the Russian ruble . In 1995, a new banking law was incorporated into the Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which regulates the role of the National Bank. On November 13, 1997, the National Bank Museum in Almaty was opened. There is a collection of historical banknotes and coins. The museum holds regular exhibitions dealing with the Kazakh banking system and currency in Kazakhstan.

tasks

The main objective of the National Bank is to ensure price stability in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In order to achieve this goal, she is charged with the following tasks:

  • Development and implementation of state monetary policy
  • Ensure the functioning of the payment systems
  • Implementation of foreign exchange regulations and exchange control
  • Promote the stability of the financial system
  • Regulation, control and supervision of the financial market, financial institutions and other parties
  • Guaranteeing the rights and legitimate interests of consumers of financial services
  • Statistical activities

In carrying out its tasks, the National Bank should not be guided by the intention of making a profit. It is not intended to compete with commercial banks or other credit institutions.
