Qadyrschan Qabdoschuly Dämitow ( Kazakh Қадыржан Қабдошұлы Дәмитов , Russian Кадыржан Кабдошевич Дамитов Kadyrschan Kabdoschewitsch Damitow * 16th December 1959 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakhstan SSR ) is a Kazakh economist and former president of the Kazakh National Bank .

Life

Qadyrschan Demitow was born in Ust-Kamenogorsk in 1959. He graduated from the Alma-Ata Institute of Economics in 1982 .

After graduating from university, he began his professional career as an engineer in the Kazakh department of the Soyussistemprom Scientific Research Institute. Between 1982 and 1984 he did military service in the Soviet army . He then worked at the Kazakh Institute of Economics before earning his doctorate as a doctoral student at the Moscow Financial Institute. Between 1988 and 1990 he worked at the Institute of Economics at the Kazakh Academy of Sciences .

Demitov then went into business, where he initially worked for a German company in Kazakhstan for a few months, before joining the Kazakh Alem Bank in 1991 . There he held various positions up to the position of CEO of the bank. In 1994 he switched to the Kazakh National Bank , where he was Deputy President from 1994 to 1997. On March 18, 1997, he became Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade in the Kazakh government. He held this post until October of the same year before working as an advisor to the Kazakh Prime Minister. On February 23, 1998 he was then appointed President of the Kazakh National Bank, where he replaced Oras Shandosov . Demitov headed the National Bank until October 13, 1999 and was then an advisor to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev .

From May 2000 to March 2004 he was deputy chairman of the board of the ABN AMRO Bank Kazakhstan and then until 2007 member of the board of the Ust-Kamenogorsk titanium-magnesium combine . From September 2007 to February 2009 he was CEO of the Ertis company and from February to May 2009 he worked as an advisor to the CEO of Alliance Bank . From May 25, 2009 to June 30, 2013 he was CEO of the Kazakh Stock Exchange and from August 5, 2013 he was CEO of BTA Bank. On February 25, 2014, he was replaced in this position; since then he has remained a member of the bank's board of directors.
