Jerbolat Asqarbekuly Dossajew ( Kazakh Ерболат Асқарбекұлы Досаев , Russian Ерболат Аскарбекович Досаев Jerbolat Askarbekowitsch Dossajew * 21st May 1970 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician and current President of the Kazakh National Bank .

Life

Yerbolat Dossayev was born in Alma-Ata in 1970 . He graduated from the Alma-Ata Energy Institute in 1993 and then from the Moscow State Technical University . He then worked in various companies and was, among other things, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Bank TuranAlem from February to August 1997 and then Chairman of the Management Board of ATFBank until March of the following year .

From March 1998 he was an advisor to the Kazakh Prime Minister Nurlan Balghymbayev . In July 1998 he held his first political office with the post of Deputy Minister for Energy, Industry and Trade. In February 2000, Dossayev was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan. In November 2001 he became chairman of the Agency for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies. In June 2003 he became Kazakhstan's new finance minister in Danial Akhmetov's cabinet . In April 2004 he moved to the Ministry of Health and was appointed as the new Minister of Health. On September 20, 2006, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev dismissed him as health minister after more than 50 children were infected with HIV in a hospital in the south of the country .

After his release, Dossayev withdrew from politics for several years. From December 2006 he was Chairman of the Management Board and a member of the Supervisory Board of Kazinvestbank and from December 2012 to May 2016 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Samruk-Kazyna State Fund. In September 2012 he returned to Kazakh politics and was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade by Nazarbayev. On January 16, 2013 he became Minister of Economy and Budgeting and from August 6, 2014 he was Minister of National Economy. After protests against a planned land reform in Kazakhstan, Dossayev resigned as Minister of Economics on May 6, 2016 after Nazarbayev accused him and Agriculture Minister Assylzhan Mamytbekov of insufficiently explaining the reform to the public.

Since May 2016 he has been the CEO of the national holding company Baiterek. From August 2017 to February 2019, he held the post of Deputy Prime Minister in the Kazakh government. Dossayev has been President of the Kazakh National Bank since February 26, 2019 .
