Quandyq Uälichanuly Bischimbajew ( Kazakh Қуандық Уәлиханұлы Бишімбаев , Russian Куандык Валиханович Бишимбаев Kuandyk Walichanowitsch Bischimbajew * 11. April 1980 in Kzyl-Orda , Kazakhstan SSR ) is a Kazakh politician .

Life

Quandyq Bishimbayev was born in 1980 in Ksyl-Orda . He graduated from the Kazakh State Academy of Management in 1999 . In 2001 a further degree from the Taras State University was added. He also received a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University through a Kazakh scholarship program .

He began his professional career in 2001 as a department head at the Kazakh Development Bank. Between 2002 and 2003 he worked as a department head in the Ministry of Economy and Budgeting, and then served as a director and member of the board of the National Innovation Fund. From 2004 to 2005 he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Center for Marketing and Analytical Research. From February to October 2005 he held positions at various companies, such as Bishimbayev was Vice President of Ordabasy Corporation and CEO of Interkomschina. He then became an advisor to the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning and, from February 2006, an advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan . From 2006 to 2007 he headed the Center for Development of Trade Policy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade as President, before holding the post of Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade between January 2007 and February 2008. He was then in the administration of the President from February 2008 to May 2009 and then Assistant to the President until March 2010. He was then Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Trade until February 2011, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Samruk-Kazyna National Fund from May 2011 to May 2013 and Chairman of the Board of Management of the National Managing Holding Baiterek until May 2016. On May 6, 2016, he was appointed Minister for National Economy in the cabinet of Kärim Mässimow . He held this post until December 28, 2016.

On January 10, 2017, Bishimbayev was arrested. He was accused of accepting bribes totaling around two million US dollars on multiple occasions while serving as chairman of the board of the National Managing Holding Baiterek. On March 14, 2018, he was sentenced to ten years in prison by a court in the capital Nur-Sultan (until 2019 Astana) . In addition, he is never again allowed to hold a political office.
