Baqyt Turlychanuly Sultanov ( Kazakh Бақыт Тұрлыханұлы Сұлтанов , Russian Бахыт Турлыханович Султанов Bachyt Turlychanowitsch Sultanov ; * 29. November 1971 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician . He has been Minister for Trade and Integration since June 17, 2019.

Life

Baqyt Sultanov was born in 1971 in the capital of the Kazakh SSR Alma-Ata, today's Almaty. He graduated from the Kazakh National Technical University of Almaty in 1994 with a degree in electrical engineering . In 1995 another degree in economics was added to the Kazakh State Academy of Management .

He began his professional career in 1994 in the Kazakh Ministry of Finance, where he held various positions. Only in 2002 did he move to the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning, where he became director of the budget policy department. From 2003 to 2006 he was Deputy Minister for Economy and Budget Planning and between 2006 and 2007 Sultanov was Chairman of the Statistics Agency and Deputy Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan. On August 10, 2007, he became a member of the Kazakh government in the cabinet of Kärim Mässimow as Minister for Economy and Budget Planning. He held this post for almost three years before he was appointed assistant to President Nursultan Nazarbayev on March 13, 2010 . From January 2012 to November 2013 he was Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and on November 6, 2013 he was appointed Kazakh Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Since September 11, 2018, Sultanov was Äkim (mayor) of the Kazakh capital Astana . He was released from office on June 13, 2019.

He has been Minister for Trade and Integration since June 17, 2019.
