Asqar Usaqbajuly Mamin ( Kazakh Асқар Ұзақбайұлы Мамин , Russian Аскар Узакпаевич Мамин Askar Usakpajewitsch Mamin ; born October 23, 1965 in Zelinograd , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Kazakh politician. He was Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from February 2019 to January 2022 .

Life

Asqar Mamin was born in Zelinograd (now Nur-Sultan) in 1965. He studied at the Zelinograd Institute of Civil Engineering , where he graduated in civil engineering in 1987. Another degree in economics was added in 2003 at the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics in Moscow .

From 1996 to 2004 he was Deputy Mayor of the Kazakh capital, Astana, as well as Deputy Minister for Transport and Communication and Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade. He was also Minister of Transport and Communications from 2005 and Mayor of Astana from September 21, 2006.

On April 4, 2008 he was appointed President of the Kazakh Railway Company Temir Sholy by order of the Kazakh President . On September 21, 2016, he became first deputy prime minister in the cabinet of Baqytschan Saghyntayev .

After Saghyntayev was sacked as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, he became Acting Prime Minister on February 21, 2019. From February 25th he was Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

At the beginning of January 2022 there were massive protests by the population in the country due to the significantly higher prices for LPG . As a result, Mamin and his cabinet resigned on January 5th. His previous deputy, Alichan Smailow , was entrusted with the provisional management of the government .

Asqar Mamin is married to Altynai Mamina. The couple have two children together.
