Nurlan Balghymbayev

Nurlan Ötepuly Balghymbajew ( Kazakh Нұрлан Өтепұлы Балғымбаев , Russian Нурлан Утепович Балгимбаев , Nurlan Utepowitsch Balgimbajew * 20th November 1947 in Guryev , Kazakh SSR ; † 14. October 2015 ) was a Kazakh politician. From 1997 to 1999 he was Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

Life

Balghymbayev graduated from the Kazakh National Technical University of Almaty . From 1973 to 1986 he held various positions in the Kazakh oil industry, including for the Aktyubinskneft company. Balghymbajew moved to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry of the Soviet Union in 1986, where he worked in a number of different departments. From 1993 to 1994 he worked for the US Chevron Corporation . Until 1997 he held the post of minister for the oil and gas industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kazakh government and was then president of the Kazakh state oil company Kazakhoil .

On October 10, 1997, Nurlan Balghymbayev was appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan as the successor to Akeschan Kaschegeldin . On October 1, 1999, Balgimbayev returned to the economy, again on the post of President of Kazakhoil, where he remained until the merger of Kazakhoil and NC Transport of Oil and Gas. From 2002 to 2007 he was President of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Investment Company.

On December 6, 2007, he was appointed advisor to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev . From February 2008 to November 2009 he advised the President as Special Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the use of the resources of the Caspian Sea.

On October 14, 2015, Balghymbayev died of longstanding cancer.
