The 1939/40 season was the first staging of the ice hockey championship in the occupied Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ; the championship this season was called Mistrovství Čech a Moravy (Championship Bohemia and Moravia). The champions became the LTC Prague , which also provided the top scorer with Josef Maleček (6 goals).

First of all, district championships were played throughout the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , the winners of which qualified for the preliminary round. The winner of the Prague championship and the three winners of the preliminary round groups A to C qualified for the final round.
In the final round, the national championship, the four teams met in a single round. Champion became the league leader after three games. The teams received two points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat.

AC Sparta qualified directly for the national championship with first place, while LTC Prague suffered their first defeat in the championship since it was founded 13 years ago. With his second place he qualified for the group matches with the winners of the regional groups. The I. ČLTK Prague reached third place and received a promotion right to the national league for the following season.
Hokejový oddíl Karlín is the successor to HOVS Prague , the club of Charles University , which was closed by the German occupation in November 1939.
