The São Joaquim National Park , officially Parque Nacional de São Joaquim in Portuguese , is located in the Serra Geral, a mountainous area in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil . The rainforests of the Mata Atlântica , Araucarias and the high Campos Gerais are protected .

On July 6, 1961, the national park with 493 km² was established near São Joaquim , in the area of ​​the municipalities of Urubici , Bom Jardim da Serra , Orleans and Grão-Pará .

On the Morro da Igreja with 1822 m the mean annual temperature is 7 ° C. There and on the 1600 m high Campos de Santa Bárbara there is regular snowfall in winter, the most important tourist attraction of the park for the Brazilians. Other attractions include waterfalls like the Cachoeira do Avencal and rocky valleys and canyons.
