National Council constituencies in the Canton of Thurgau (1848)
In the first Swiss National Council elections in 1848 , the canton of Thurgau was divided into several constituencies for the only time. After the assembly passed a decree on September 14, 1848 , the Thurgau government council passed the resolution on the following day to divide the canton into four electoral districts , each with one seat (§ 2885, StATG 3'00'92).
Two districts were combined as follows:
- I. constituency: Arbon and Bischofszell districts
- II. Constituency: Districts Gottlieben ( Kreuzlingen ) and Steckborn
- III. Constituency: Districts Tobel ( Münchwilen ) and Weinfelden
- IV. Constituency: Diessenhofen and Frauenfeld districts
The elections took place on October 5, 1848. In the III. Constituency two ballots were necessary, in the fourth constituency even four, so that the complete results were not known until October 26th (see here ). In all subsequent elections to the National Council from 1851, the canton of Thurgau formed a single constituency .
