Esther Mitterstieler (born September 8, 1968 in Völs am Schlern , South Tyrol ) is an Italian journalist and book author . From September 2012 to December 2013 she was editor- in- chief at the Wirtschaftsblatt . From January 2015 she was a member of the editor-in-chief of News magazine , of which she was editor-in-chief from February 2017 to December 2018.

Life

Esther Mitterstieler graduated from the Humanist High School in Bozen in 1987 , and from 1987 to 1992 she studied literature and philosophy as well as contemporary history ( lettere e filosofia and storia contemporanea ) at the University of Bologna . She wrote her thesis on Otto von Bismarck .

From 1993 to 1998 she was the business editor and deputy head of the business department at the South Tyrolean daily newspaper Dolomiten in Bozen. In 1996 she worked for the Italian business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore , and from 1996 to 1998 she also worked for the Italian state television station RAI .

From 1999 to 2003 she wrote as a business editor for the Austrian daily newspaper Der Standard . For the news channel n-tv she reported on the stock market in Vienna from 1998 to 2001, and in 2003 and 2004 she wrote articles for the magazines profil and trend . She reported as a correspondent from Vienna for the German Börsen-Zeitung .

From April 2006 she was chief reporter for the Wirtschaftsblatt , in 2008 she took over the management of the companies and markets department of the paper, from 2009 she was deputy editor-in-chief, from September 2012 finally editor-in-chief. In this function, she was also responsible for the introduction of the regional business paper , which was published monthly in all federal states from May 2013. At the end of 2013, she left the company in the wake of speculation about the merging of the two daily newspapers, Die Presse and Wirtschaftsblatt , which belong to the Styria Media Group . From February 2015 she was editor-in-chief of News magazine , and in February 2017 she succeeded Eva Weissenberger as editor-in-chief. At the beginning of December 2018 it was announced that she would be leaving the News publishing group at the end of the year. Kathrin Gulnerits succeeded her as editor-in-chief of News magazine . In February 2019 she was appointed head of the "Economy" department of ORF Radio Information by ORF .

Mitterstieler is a state-certified ski instructor and lives in Vienna.
