Sodium acrylate is a chemical substance belonging to the group of acrylates . It is made from acrylic acid and caustic soda . Sodium acrylate is mainly used as a raw material for the production of polymers .

Extraction and presentation

Acrylic acid is neutralized with a sodium base (e.g. sodium hydroxide solution ), usually in an aqueous or alcoholic solution. The solvent is then gently removed.

properties

Physical Properties

Sodium acrylate is a white, crystalline powder that is readily soluble in water.

use

Sodium acrylate is used as a monomer in mostly aqueous polymerizations . It is used, among other things, for the production of superabsorbents , wallpaper paste and paints .

safety instructions

Sodium acrylate is classified in water hazard class 2 according to appendix 3 of the administrative regulation for water polluting substances (VwVwS) .

proof

Sodium acrylate can be detected using high performance liquid chromatography on reversed phase columns.
