Cyclopentadienyl sodium is a chemical compound from the group of cyclopentadienyls and is one of the sodium salts .

Extraction and presentation

Cyclopentadienyl sodium can be obtained by reacting cyclopentadiene with sodium or sodium hydride .

properties

Cyclopentadienyl sodium is a white, very air- and hydrolysis-sensitive solid whose solutions in tetrahydrofuran are colorless in the absence of any impurities, in particular traces of oxygen and water, otherwise pink or red-violet. It reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide and cyclopentadiene.

use

Cyclopentadienyl sodium is used as a universal reagent for the synthesis of metallocenes and cyclopentadienyl metal complexes.
