Natsuki Tamura

Natsuki Tamura ( Japanese 田村 夏 樹 ; Tamura Natsuki , born July 26, 1951 in Ōtsu , Shiga Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz trumpeter and composer .

Live and act

Natsuki Tamura played in a brass band during his school days. After his graduation, he was a professional musician in various ensembles such as the World Sharps Orchestra, Consolation, the Skyliners Orchestra, New Herd Orchestra, Music Magic Orchestra and the formations of his future wife, the pianist Satoko Fujii . Tamura also appeared on various Japanese television shows from 1973 to 1982, such as The Best Ten, Music Fair and Kirameku Rhythm . In 1986 he moved to the United States to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston ; on his return to Japan he taught at the Yamaha Music School and at private trumpet studios in Tokyo and Saitama .

After another stay in the USA, he worked with various band projects, such as the improvisation quartet Gato Libre, and his own groups as well as in a duo with his wife ( In Krakow, In November , 2006) and as a soloist. Recordings appeared on Leo Records ( A Song for Jyaki ), Buzz, Libra and NatSat. Tamura is stylistically influenced by Hugh Ragin , Roy Campbell , Wadada Leo Smith , Toshinori Kondō , Don Cherry and Lester Bowie . He has also worked with Masahiko Satō , the Rova Saxophone Quartet , Larry Ochs , the Juggernaut Jug Band, Misha Mengelberg , Angelo Verploegen , Chris Brown , Jimmy Weinstein , Elliott Sharp , Paul Bley , Takayuki Katō , Takaaki Masuko , Ryōjirō Furusawa and the band Junk Box .
