Peter Orins

Peter Orins (* 1977 ) is a French jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , electronics, composition ).

Live and act

Orins had a classical music education, then learned drums at a music school before studying jazz at the Conservatoire National de Région de Lille (graduation in 1997). He took lessons from Guy Gilbert , Jean-François Canape and Gérard Marais . He also studied musicology , improvisation (with Fred Van Hove ) and composition with Jean-Marc Chouvel and Ricardo Mandolini. From the mid-1990s he worked as a professional drummer; from 2000 he was a member of the music collective Circum . In this environment he worked with the band projects Impression (from 2012 Flu (o) ), Quartet Base and the Stefan Orins Trio. From 2010 he was active in the Circum successor collective CRIME in Lille. He was also a member of the La Pieuvre improvisation orchestra under the direction of Olivier Benoît and worked on solo projects (drums and electronics) as well as in projects with David Bausseron , Laurent Rigaut , Ivann Cruz , Christian Pruvost , Jean-Luc Guionnet , Benjamin Duboc and Yanik Miossec and Falter Bramnk .

From 2006 to 2009 Orins directed the Franco-Vietnamese band project Hué / Circum . In 2010 he formed the Kaze quartet with Satoko Fujii , Natsuki Tamura and Christian Pruvost , for which he also composed; with this band he toured in Japan, Israel, Germany, France, USA and Canada; four albums of this formation (as of 2018) have been released. In 2015 he worked in a quartet with Fujii, Sophie Agnel and Didier Lasserre ( Trouble Kaze , 2016); he was also a member of Fujii's Orchestra Berlin (2016). He also played with Ivann Cruz / Maciej Garbowski , in the Muzzix collective and with theater, dance and film projects, for which he composes.

In the course of his career he also played with Didier Aschour , Renée Baker , Jeb Bishop , Petr Cancura , Jacques Di Donato , François Corneloup , Steve Dalachinsky , Andrew D'Angelo , Ernest Dawkins , Stéphane Garin , Michael Griener , Avreeayl Ra , Radu Malfatti , Josh Sinton , Curtis Hasselbring , René Hart , Sylvain Kassap , Frank London , Norbert Lucarain , Joe Morris , Dave Rempis , Akira Sakata , Gebhard Ullmann , Nate Wooley , Michael Zerang and Camel Zekri . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord recorded his participation in six recording sessions between 2010 and 2014.
