Eichenhain Nature Park
The Eichenhain area has been protected as a nature park since 1979 and is located in Lower Austria . The approximately 3,800 hectare nature park extends over the municipal areas of Klosterneuburg and St. Andrä-Wierter . The area represents the northern part of the Vienna Woods at the transition to the Danube Valley and the Tullnerfeld , the subsoil consists of sandstone . The nature park is freely accessible.
Natural sights
The specialty of the nature park are its oak and beech forests . The forests are interrupted by meadows used extensively for agriculture, such as the meadow at the Gsängerhütte, the Hohenauer Wiese or the Windischalm. In the area of the nature park there are brooks dug into the soft sandstone, such as the Rotgrabenbach, the Haselbach or the Hagenbach . The latter forms a small gorge accessible via a hiking trail, the so-called Hagenbach gorge . The highest named elevation in the nature park is the 464 m high Table Mountain (also Taferlberg); the highest point at around 495 m is at the entrance to the Windischhütte.
