Nature reserve training site near Büecke
The nature reserve site exercise area near Büecke with a size of 247 ha is located north of Büecke in the municipality of Möhnesee and in the urban area of Soest in the Soest district . Around 40% of the area is in the municipality of Möhnesee. The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Arnsberg district government in 2004 . Large parts of the NSG belong to the FFH area Büecke and Hiddingser Schledde (DE-4414-301) with a size of 190 ha.
Area description
In the NSG is the local former training area of the Belgian garrison in Soest. In the NSG there are large, tree-free, lean grassland areas. There are numerous small bodies of water in the tracks of military vehicles such as tanks that serve as spawning waters for amphibians. Furthermore, there are three deeply cut dry valleys, here called Schledden , in the NSG. These dry valleys divide the NSG into the three plateaus Roe , Kleiberg and Mark . The area is bordered by bushes, small forests and orchards. In the NSG breeding species such as red-backed shrike , Tree Pipit , Meadow Pipit , Skylark , Yellowhammer and Red Kite .
The NSG is partially fenced in in the eastern area and is grazed with rear cattle and Konik horses all year round. The areas grazed with Heck cattle and Koniks are also known as the Kleiberg pasture landscape , as they are located around the Kleiberg. The Kleiberg pasture area is closed to visitors. The pasture area can be viewed via a network of paths along the edge and two viewing hills. The western grassland areas in the NSG are grazed with sheep.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the former military training area with species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
