The Tuffstein nature reserve near Büren, with an area of 0.1739 hectares, is located southeast of Büren and south of the L 549 road in the Paderborn district . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1996 by the district council with the Büren-Wünnenberg landscape plan. The area has also been protected as a FFH area Tuffstein bei Büren (DE-4417301) since 2004 .
description
The NSG borders almost directly on the country road. The lime sinter spring is located in a woodruff beech forest rich in sycamore. The spring mouth with little vegetation is covered with only a few cushions of moss. The spring water pours over a sinter block of around four square meters and a height of over one meter. The sinter block is overgrown by Cratoneuron commutatum a pleurocarpic deciduous moss . To protect the sintered lime spring and for buffering, an approx. 25 m wide area of the beech forest around the spring was included in the NSG delimitation.
With its typical shape, the optimal formation of the moss vegetation types and the protected location in the beech forest, the tuff stone near Büren is one of the best preserved sintered limestone springs in the Weserbergland natural area .
The central protection goal of the NSG is the protection and maintenance of the calcareous sinter structures, the vegetation and the water regime of the limestone spring.
Forestry use in the immediate vicinity of the sintering block is prohibited and must be extended in the catchment area above the source.
