The "Vogelwoog-Schmalzwoog" nature reserve is a nature reserve in Kaiserslautern .
geography
The nature reserve covers an area of approx. 22 ha. The Vogelwoog Lake and the “Schmalzwoog” corridor as well as their immediate surroundings in the Hammerbach Valley between the A6 and the West industrial park. It offers meadows and forests, reed beds and Sedge , Moore , damp and wet meadows , sand lawn, Nardus grasslands and dwarf shrub heath , heathland , swamp forests and bushes - and Saumbiotope .
The protected area is considered a local recreation area for the city of Kaiserslautern and offers numerous hiking trails, a forest adventure trail, an adventure playground, a forest classroom, a barefoot trail and an ore hut. There is a restaurant on the eastern bank.
history
The area was designated as a nature reserve on February 13, 1996. The protection purpose is the preservation and development of the Hammerbach valley with the Vogelwoog.
Flora and fauna
The rare plant species in the nature reserve include the round-leaved sundew , cotton grass and various peat mosses .
