The NSG was designated in 2006 by the district council of the Soest district with the Ense-Wickede landscape plan. The NSG borders directly on the district boundary in the west and south. In the urban area of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis , the Lürwald nature reserve borders directly in the south . The NSG has been part of the FFH area Lürwald and Bieberbach (no. DE-4513-301) and also as part of the European bird sanctuary Lürwald and Bieberbach (no. DE-4513-401) since 2004 . The NSG consists of two areas.

Area description

The NSG is the natural meandering low mountain range Wimberner Bach with gravel banks, steep banks and still water areas. The bank areas are partly accompanied by alder gallery forests and often also by spruce. The floodplain is partly used as commercial grassland.

Species such as crested newt , brook lamprey and bullhead have been identified in the NSG . From Annex II of the Habitats Directive was u. a. the following species of birds found: kingfisher , honey buzzard , Middle Spotted Woodpecker , Gray-headed woodpecker , black stork , red-backed shrike and Red Kite .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect Bach and the floodplain with their species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
