history
Naugatuck was founded in 1844 . The name of the city comes from Indian and means something like lone tree by the fishing place (lonely tree at the fishing place ). The city grew very quickly due to its location on a large waterway, as the conditions for freight transport were very good. The railroad was added in 1849 , which further improved the sale and transportation of coal as a raw material.
