Nautor AB is a major Finnish shipyard in Jakobstad , which has been manufacturing luxury sailing yachts since 1966 (Nautor's Swan) . It is named after the swan , the Finnish national animal. The ships are designed both for athletes (global regattas) and for large trips with demanding sailors. So far over 2000 yachts (approx. 30 models) have been produced. The 2000th Swan yacht was delivered in August 2012

Corporate development

Nautor AB was founded in 1966 by Pekka Koskenkylä . In the same year a 36-foot motor glider was brought onto the market, but was discontinued in 1970. In 1968 the first Swan 36 (length: 10.91 m) came on the market with the name Casse Tete II , designed by Olin Stephens from the New York design office Sparkman & Stephens , with which seven international regatta victories were won.

In 1970 the large Swan 65 (length: 19.68 m) from the Sparkman & Stephens design office followed . The Swan 65 Sayula II (Mexico) won the first Whitbread Race in 1973/74 and in the second Whitbread Race in 1977/78 Swan 65 yachts finished second, fourth and fifth overall. Since then, Nautor has mainly produced yachts of this size. In 1978 the 1000th Swan yacht was delivered.

In 1974 the Swan 38 , Nautor's most popular model to date, came onto the market.

The shipyards and production facilities are located in Kållby , Kronoby , Larsmo and Jakobstad . While the yachts were designed by the Sparkman & Stephens design office in the early years , Nautor changed designers in 1975 with Ron Holland (Ireland) and in 1980 with German Frers (Argentina).
