history

In 2003 Jari Altermatt (guitar, vocals), Patrick Meury (bass) and Andi Steiner (drums) founded the band in the Ricola factory in Laufen, Switzerland. After a few gigs in and around Erschwil and Laufen (Switzerland) they met Chrigel Fisch, who from 2004 to the end of 2011 was the band's »Personal Jesus« (manager). The positions of drums and bass changed over time: in 2007 Olivier Joliat (Welken, Lombego Surfers, Dessert Session) sat on drums. Since mid-2007 the line-up has consisted of Jari Altermatt (guitar, vocals, harp), Eve Monney (bass, vocals; since 2005) and Steve Valentin (drums; since mid-2007). In 2006 and 2007 the band played about 100 concerts in Europe and signed a recording deal with Louisville Records. In July 2008, bassist Eve announced that she was leaving the band. From now on she wants to devote herself to other artistic tasks. The band's new bass player was Michi Christ, who left the band in 2011 with Steve Valentin. At the end of 2011, the collaboration with Chrigel Fisch (Personal Jesus MGMT), who had looked after Navel as manager and booker since 2004, also ended. In the summer of 2010, Navel joined Noisolution in Berlin. The current line-up since 2012 consists of Marco Näf (bass, vocals), Massimo Tondini (keyboard, guitar, vocals) and Martin Huber (drums), as well as founder Jari «Antti» Altermatt.

On December 1, 2015, the band announced via Facebook that they would split up. The last two concerts took place on December 2nd, 2015 in the Schüür in Lucerne (Switzerland) and on December 5th, 2015 in the Kaschemme in Basel (Switzerland). The band announced the final official breakup on December 6, 2015 via Facebook. Navel gave a total of 385 concerts.
