Nazmi Ziya Güran
Nazmi Ziya Güran (* 1881 in Constantinople Opel ; † 11. September 1937 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish painter of Impressionism .
Life
Güran was born in what is now Istanbul. After studying political science, which he completed at the request of his father, he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in 1901 , where he studied with the painters Joseph Warnia-Zarzecki and Salvator Valéri .
In 1905 he was inspired by the French painter Paul Signac , who was on a visit to Constantinople. His degree was postponed for a year due to his impressionistic painting style. With his diploma in 1908 he went to Paris and attended the prestigious Académie Julian of the painter Rodolphe Julian . Fernand Cormon and Marcel Baschet later became his teachers. In 1913 he traveled through the German Empire and Austria-Hungary .
Back in Istanbul he belonged to an impressionist group of artists around the painter İbrahim Çallı . In addition to his artistic work, he taught at the Art Academy in Istanbul. He was also the director of the facility. Güran was a supporter of Ataturk's social reforms , whom he also portrayed. But above all, he painted landscapes.
