Young Wind Philharmonic NRW

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junge Bläserphilharmonie NRW is a symphonic wind orchestra sponsored by the State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia and the "Association for the Promotion of State Youth Ensembles NRW". The selected orchestra consists of around 65 woodwinds, brass players and percussionists aged between 14 and 24 years. The members come from North Rhine-Westphalia and neighboring countries. In order to be accepted into the orchestra, the musicians must have passed an audition or have proven themselves by participating in a rehearsal phase. Good placements in the state competition Jugend musiziert are often a criterion. The Junge Bläserphilharmonie is a funding project for young musicians in NRW and serves many as a springboard for a career as a professional musician.

history

The Junge Bläserphilharmonie NRW was founded in 1985 as the “LandesJugendblasOrchester” by Reinhold Rogg, who was then director of the Krefeld Music School. The conductor and oboist Pierre Kuijpers was chief conductor of the orchestra from 1997 to 2011, followed by the Dutchman Harry Vorselen from 2012 to 2016 . Timor Oliver Chadik has been the artistic director since 2017 .

In its more than 30-year existence, concert tours have taken the orchestra across European borders to Belarus , the People's Republic of China , the USA and Singapore . In 1999 the JBP was the only German orchestra to be invited to the International WASBE Conference in California . Live recordings document stations of the orchestra in California and Singapore. With the support of the Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute , the orchestra was able to travel to China in 2009 and give concerts in Shanghai and Hangzhou . In 2014 a concert tour to Austria and Hungary followed with concerts in Debrecen and in front of Schönbrunn Palace . In the summer of 2017, the orchestra traveled to Spain with conductor Thomas Clamor , where a documentary was also made about the tour. In addition, concert recordings of the Junge Bläserphilharmonie NRW can be heard regularly on WDR 3 .

In July 2013 the Junge Bläserphilharmonie NRW played a gala concert in the Dutch town of Kerkrade as part of the World Music Contest (WMC) . The jury gave the orchestra 1st place in the Festival Division. The WMC is one of the largest and most important brass music festivals in the world.

"The Junge Bläserphilharmonie NRW [...] has become one of the finest ensembles of its kind in Europe, by playing and promoting the original wind orchestra literature."

- Johan de Meij , Dutch composer and conductor

Rehearsal phases and repertoire

The orchestra meets two to three times a year for work phases in the Landesmusikakademie NRW in Heek or in the Musikbildungszentrum Südwestfalen . The repertoire to be developed includes arranged works and original compositions, including world premieres of commissioned works for the orchestra, e.g. B. by Alexander Comitas and Frank Zabel .
