Thiemo Kraas (born June 15, 1984 in Arnsberg , Sauerland ) is a German composer and conductor .

biography

In April 2005 he began studying music education with a major in drums at the Detmold University of Music , which he completed in February 2009 with a diploma. Since April 2007 Kraas is a fellow of the Scholarship Foundation of the German People . Since April 2009 he has been studying music theory / composition and ear training , also in Detmold . Kraas gained experience as an orchestral musician . a. in the Junge Tonkünstler Orchester Bayreuth, the Orkest van het Oosten Enschede, the Radio Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Hilversum, the Kammerphilharmonie Gütersloh and the Kammerphilharmonie Hamburg . In addition, Kraas has been a permanent member of the symphonic project wind orchestra Westfalen Winds for many years . Kraas is a member of the Deutsche Bläserphilharmonie and the international project for a symphonic wind orchestra, World of Winds . He also works as the musical director of the university wind orchestra at the Detmold University of Music. Since January 2008 Kraas has been working full-time as conductor and musical director of the Avenwedde youth music corps in Gütersloh . In addition, since April 2010 he has been employed as a tutor in the subject of music theory / composition at the Detmold University of Music.

Kraas' compositions have been played by orchestras from numerous countries such as Italy, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Singapore.

Kraas sees the British conductor Douglas Bostock as a decisive mentor for his conducting work , who has given him great support, for example through his active participation in his conducting masterclasses at the Jungfrau Music Festival in 2008 and 2010 in Interlaken , Switzerland , where Kraas has conducting experience with the Texas University Wind Ensemble or the Banda de Lalin.
