The Westfälische Bläserphilharmonie Westfalen Winds is a national symphonic wind orchestra made up of around 75 amateur musicians, music students and professional musicians.

The orchestra

Ulrich Schmidt-

Westfalen Winds was founded in 1996 in the Hochsauerlandkreis and works on projects for concerts, master courses, national and international competitions and concert tours. The orchestra has been led by trumpeter Ulrich Schmidt since 2005 , previously by Franz Schulte-Huermann .

The focus of the orchestra work should be the promotion and development of symphonic wind music as an art form, in particular through the interpretation of original compositions, commissioned works or through guest performances by international soloists and conductors.

The orchestra premiered several works, including the commissioned compositions "Miroir de l'âme" and "Traummaschine" by Thiemo Kraas , the work "three, four, six and nine" by Manfred Honetschläger (with the trombone quartet of the Berliner Philharmoniker ), or the Japanese premiere of Rolf Rudin's "From the end of time - a premonition"

The orchestra also plays arrangements and transcriptions as part of thematic concerts as well as film music and program music, for example under the titles "America in the 21st Century", "Wizard and Magic" or "Magic Winds and the Harry Potter Suite".

The orchestra also held several master classes, among others under the direction of Maurice Hamers (wind orchestra conducting , 2007) from the Leopold Mozart Center in Augsburg, Fried Dobbelstein (wind orchestra conducting, 2011 and 2014) from the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede and Nobuya Sugawa (saxophone, 2012 ) from Tokyo University of Arts and the Trouvère Quartet in cooperation with Yamaha Europe and the Cologne University of Music and Dance .
