Necdet Cici (* 1913 in Istanbul ; † unknown) was a Turkish football player , coach and singer. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and as its own generation, he is associated with this club and viewed by club and fan sites as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. He was part of the Galatasaray team that dominated Turkish football in the 1920s and 1930s and five of eight possible Istanbul championshipsgot. He wore the captain's armband at Galatasaray at times. In addition to his football career, he was mainly noticed because of his numerous affairs, his lush nightlife and his gambling addiction and was therefore a popular figure in the tabloids . When he was playing, he was known by his well-groomed appearance and fine facial features by his nickname Cici (dt. Hübsch ) or Cici Necdet (dt. The pretty Necdet or Necdet, the pretty ), which he later adopted as his surname. He was married to the Turkish writer Cahit Uçuk for about ten years . After his football career, he established himself as a singer of Turkish art music .

Player career

society

Cici attended Galatasaray High School and played in the youth department of the traditional Galatasaray Istanbul Club , which was founded in 1905 by students from Galatasaray High School. Word of his footballing talent spread quickly in the Galatasaray community, so that he was accepted into the squad of the Galatasaray football team at the age of fifteen in the 1928/29 season . At the time of his entry into the professional squad, his club played in the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ). Since there was no international professional league in Turkey at that time, there were regional leagues instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. Despite his young age, he was used in five league games and scored one goal. At the end of the season he was champion with his club, which meant the fourth championship in a row for his club. After he had awarded the championship in the 1929/30 season to arch rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul with his club, he decided the championship again for himself with his club in the 1930/31 season . Cici scored nine goals in seven games this season, making him one of the club's most successful goal scorers.

For Galatasaray, Cici played until the summer of 1941. After a controversy had occurred within the club in 1933, about half of the team's squad left the club and founded the rival club Güneş SK . After this split, Cici's team lost connection to the top of the table and remained without a title win in the Istanbul championship until the 1948/49 season . Only in the 1938/1939 season could the title be won in the Milli Küme , a kind of championship tournament in which the teams from the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated. Cici scored two goals in five games in that tournament.

In 1941 Cici moved to the Istanbul club Taksim SK and played for them for an indefinite period of time.

National team

Cici began his national team career in 1932 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Bulgarian national team . In this encounter he completed his first and only international match.

Coaching career

Although Cici chose a career as a singer after his football career, he occasionally coached amateur teams. For example, it is documented that he trained Mamak Maskespor in Ankara in the early 1950s . During this time he discovered the then 15-year-old İlhan Cavcav and added him to the squad of the Maskespor first team. Cavcav later became a very influential sports official and long-time president of Gençlerbirliği Ankara .

Family and life after football

Cici married the Turkish writer Cahit Uçuk while playing football and stayed with her for ten years. Towards the end of his football career he tried to establish himself as a singer of Turkish art music and managed to do so. He was active as a singer until the 1980s and was one of the most frequently booked radio singers for the stately radio company TRT . Therefore, he also moved his residence to the capital Ankara . He worked as a singer until the 1980s.

death

The exact date of Cici's death is not known. He was mentioned again and again in newspapers until the late 1980s.
