The Nechako River is an approximately 290 km long right tributary of the Fraser River in the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The upper reaches of the Nechako River was cut off by the construction of the Kenney Dam and the impoundment of the Nechako Reservoir . Very little water flows below the Kenney Dam. The Nechako River is mainly fed by the Cheslatta River , a left tributary through which the Nechako Reservoir is now drained to the east. The Nechako River flows through the Nechako Plateau for its first 100 km in a northeastern direction. He passes the village of Fort Fraser . Below the confluence of the Nautley River , the Nechako River turns east. It passes the town of Vanderhoof and finally flows into the Fraser River near Prince George .
The original river length, measured from the far end of Eutsuk Lake , was 462 km.
