The Necker Moss ( Neckera crispa ) is a Laubmoosart from the family of neckeraceae .

description

The species forms large, up to 20 cm long, very shiny, widely branched lawns. The stems, including the leaves, are approx. 5 mm wide.

As with all mosses in the family, the leaves are attached to the stem in a spiral, but are twisted so that all leaves are in one plane. The side branches are also largely in this level.

The leaves are very wavy, even with the naked eye. In terms of shape, they are tongue-shaped to elongated egg-shaped and pointed at the front. The edge of the leaf is serrated at the tip of the leaf. A vein is missing or very short.

The Seta lifts the capsule clearly above the leaves.

Distribution and location requirements

Neckermoos grows especially in limestone mountains in not too high altitudes in places with higher humidity, where it can form long, hanging trails on tree trunks and rocks.

It occurs in temperate Europe and in the mountains around the Mediterranean .
