Edward "Ned" Barkas (born November 21, 1902 in Wardley , † April 24, 1962 in Birmingham ) was an English football player and coach .

Life

Ned Barkas was born into a footballing family in 1902: his brother Sam later became a national player and was temporarily captain of the national team ; with Tommy , Jimmy and Harry , three other brothers later also practiced this sport professionally. The future national player Billy Felton was a cousin of the brothers.

Ned Barkas himself played as a defender . On a professional level, he was active in the First Division at Huddersfield , Birmingham and Chelsea in the 1920s and 1930s . His successes include winning the championship twice with Huddersfield under Herbert Chapman and two finals at the FA Cup , one with Huddersfield and one with Birmingham.

After playing for Chelsea in the years leading up to World War II , Barkas returned to the Midlands in 1939 . Until 1943 he worked as a player- coach at an amateur club in Solihull , which was his only station as a football coach .

Ned Barkas died in Birmingham on April 24, 1962 at the age of 59 .
