Neil Kerr (born April 13, 1871 in bowling , † 1901 ) was a Scottish football player . In his playing career, he won the Scottish Championship and the Cup twice in the 1890s .
Career
Neil Kerr was born in Bowling about three miles southeast of Dumbarton in 1871 . From 1887 he played in Glasgow, which was about 16 km northwest of his native city, for the FC Cowlairs which had been founded by workers of the Cowlairs Railway . Kerr's greatest success with the club was reaching the 5th round of the Scottish Cup in 1888.
A year later he moved to the Glasgow Rangers . In January 1891 he played once in the jersey of FC Dumbarton and scored in a 5-0 victory over FC Cambuslang . With the Rangers he won the Scottish Championship in the 1890/91 season, which was shared with Dumbarton. In February 1894 he won the Scottish Cup with the Rangers . In the final against Celtic , however, Kerr was not used. In the league, Kerr came for the Rangers in four seasons on 58 appearances in which he scored 20 goals.
On June 4, 1894, Kerr signed a contract with the English first division promoted Liverpool FC . He made his debut on September 13, 1894 in a 2-1 home defeat by Bolton Wanderers . A month later he scored his first goal when he scored a 1-0 lead in a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United . In 12 games, Kerr scored a total of three times, Liverpool were relegated after a year.
He then moved to Nottingham Forest for the 1895/96 season . With the club, he finished thirteenth in the table in the first division. After spending a year in Nottingham, he went back to Scotland. First he played for a year at FC Falkirk in a lower league until he played again for the Glasgow Rangers between 1897 and 1899. With these he won the cup again in 1898 and the championship in 1899 .
