biography
Nella Korpio comes from the Finnish capital Helsinki and starts for the local ski club.
At the age of 16 she competed in her first FIS races in Sweden and Finland and at the end of her first international season she won her first national title in Super-G. A year later, on November 12, 2016, she contested her first World Cup race with the Levi slalom . A few weeks later, she also made her European Cup debut in the giant slalom in Trysil . In February 2017 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Erzurum and won the silver medal in slalom. After she was still in the lead in the first run, she fell back to second place in the final run. In the giant slalom she finished eighth. At her first junior world championship in Åre , she did not get beyond ranks 13 and 14 in giant slalom and slalom.
The 2017/18 season did not go as planned. After a previously suffered fibular fracture , she was only able to start again in FIS races in February. At the end of the month she finished second in the Dutch slalom championships behind Belarusian Maryja Schkanawa . Finally she managed to defend the Finnish championship title in her favorite discipline.
In December 2018 she won her first European Cup points in Trysil. Three weeks later, with 23rd place in the Courchevel slalom, she also managed to win her first World Cup points. She was the first Finnish woman after Tanja Poutiainen in March 2014 to succeed.
