The Nelly Sachs Park is located in the Schöneberg district of Berlin on Dennewitzstrasse . Access to the park is also possible from Blumenthalstrasse via a pedestrian path. The park was created on an area on which the Volksbad Dennewitzstraße stood until 1944 . After it was destroyed in the war, the courtyard area behind the house was cleared of rubble and landscaped, but remained nameless for years. It was not until the mid-1980s that the district administration decided to name the park after the Jewish- German writer and poet Nelly Sachs (1891–1970).

history

In 1989 a boulder was unveiled in the park in honor of Nelly Sachs . In 2009 the playground was upgraded in order to offer the residents a better quality of life.

Design

In the park there is a small pond, a playground and a lawn for sunbathing. The pond is managed by the Tauchsportklub Adlershof e. V. maintained. After a joint cleaning operation with the BSR in 2005, he took over the sponsorship of the water and now cleans the pond every six months. Since 2007, the park has been part of a long-distance cycle path network that is to lead from Copenhagen to Leipzig . For this purpose, some trees had to be felled, which led to protests among the residents. The connection to Bülowstrasse announced for 2008 was not implemented until 2014 after many planning deficiencies.

Accessibility and neighbors

The park and the paths are barrier-free . To the east, on the other side of Dennewitzstrasse, there is the area of the Westpark , which was completed in spring 2013 and is part of the park at Gleisdreieck . Its eastern part was inaugurated on September 2, 2011.

The German architect and professor of building construction at the Technical University of Berlin , Rainer Oefelein (1935–2011), built residential buildings on Dennewitzstrasse in 1994 .
