Berlin – Leipzig cycle path

The cycle route known under the official name Radweg Berlin – Leipzig (short: RBL ) can be cycled in five sections that lead from Berlin via Zossen , Jüterbog , Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Bad Düben to Leipzig . It is marketed by the Anhalt-Dessau-Wittenberg eV tourism region and is also shown in the opposite direction, from Leipzig to Berlin.

Berlin - Zossen
The cycle path begins at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin . From here it runs south parallel to the north-south long-distance railway through the park at Gleisdreieck and Hans-Baluschek-Park and at the Schöneberger Südgelände Nature Park to the city limits at Lichtenrade . This partly corresponds to the planned Berlin rapid cycle route Teltow Canal Route (RSV 6), partly to the Berlin Wall Trail .
From Blankenfelde-Mahlow , the cycle path runs along cycle paths and quiet local roads to Rangsdorfer See (water sports area). Via Groß Machnow , which is located in a moss-rich and moist environment, you finally get to Zossen, which was already settled in the Bronze Age and today offers many leisure activities.
Zossen - Jüterbog
When you arrive in Zossen, all of the districts that belong to Zossen invite you to linger and walk or to explore by bike. From here the cycle path runs in a south-westerly direction to the Mellensee (excursion and holiday destination). The path continues to the village of Sperenberg with approx. 1600 inhabitants, which was particularly popular in the past due to the mining of gypsum . In addition, Sperenberg Airport is only a short distance from the cycle path, which can be visited with pre-booked tours. Via Kummersdorf-Gut , where the Kummersdorf Museum is located, the path leads to the Flaeming-Skate , with which there are many other possibilities for extending bike tours, as it is a total of 220 km long. From here you can take a detour to Luckenwalde , the district town of the Teltow-Fläming district . The long-distance cycle path continues via the Zinna monastery to Jüterbog , whose old town is worth seeing.
Jüterbog - Lutherstadt Wittenberg
You leave the Flaeming-Skate at Jüterbog via the feeder S9 to get to Zahna via Dennewitz , Seehausen near Blönsdorf , Naundorf near Seyda and Ottmannsdorf .
When you arrive in the Zahna district of the city of Zahna-Elster , the route follows Jüterboger Straße. Alternatively, take the Elsterstraße to the north to the field stone church of the Rahnsdorf district . Its main features emerged in the 13th century. In front of the church walls in the middle of the village there is a display board for the Berlin Leipzig bike path with information on the history of Rahnsdorf, accommodation for cyclists and local businesses. The detour is only marked in the opposite direction, to the bike path . Back in Zahna there are similar boards near the farmer's museum, the Marienkirche in the town center and a little further away at the train station.
The villages of Bülzig and Zörnigall follow south-west of Zahna before reaching Lutherstadt Wittenberg, the third largest city on the cycle route, about halfway down the route.
Lutherstadt Wittenberg - Bad Düben
Behind Lutherstadt Wittenberg, the cycle path crosses the Elbe and crosses the famous Elbe cycle path here . In addition, it is part of the European route (D3) from here to Bergwitzsee . Once there, the route continues to Kemberg . The Dübener Heide nature park begins here . In addition, the pilgrimage route Lutherweg is crossed here. You pass Reinharz Castle , Bad Schmiedeberg across the Dübener Heide nature park, where the cycle path reaches its highest point at 180 m , to Bad Düben .
Bad Düben - Leipzig
At the end of Bad Düben the cycle path crosses the Mulde and thus also the Mulderadweg . The last section leads along cycle paths and forest paths as well as quiet local roads to Leipzig.
Connections and alternatives
The cycle path crosses many cycle paths on its tour. Thus, in Berlin on the bike path Berlin Usedom , Berlin-Copenhagen Cycle Route , Spreeradweg and the Berlin Wall are switched. On the Berlin - Lutherstadt Wittenberg route, the R1 European cycle route runs largely parallel via Potsdam and Bad Belzig . Both cycle paths meet again on the market square of Lutherstadt Wittenberg and continue to Bergwitzsee . The Brandenburg tour meets the cycle path in the Brandenburg area and is part of the same course. With the Flaeming-Skate the tour can be extended to approx. 200 km of paved paths. In addition, the path meets the Elbe cycle path in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the Raiffeisen cycle path to Delitzsch and the Mulder cycle path in Bad Düben . In addition, you can switch to the coal-steam-light cycle route in the Leipzig area , which starts from Leipzig via Delitzsch, Bitterfeld-Wolfen , Gräfenhainichen and leads back to Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
Infrastructure

The bike path is connected to the long-distance traffic of the German railways at the start and finish point through the main train stations in Berlin and Leipzig, so that the journey from distant regions is possible. The cycle path is also otherwise accompanied by rail networks that run parallel to the cycle path. Only in the section from Lutherstadt Wittenberg to Leipzig is there no rail transport. Bicycles are usually free of charge in Saxony-Anhalt. In Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin, the cost of taking bicycles with you is regulated differently. However, due to the capacity, it is possible to take bicycles with you on all local trains.
In the Berlin area, the cycle path can be shortened by the Berlin S-Bahn .
