Through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna they came to Prussia and in 1816 were assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony .

On July 1, 1950, the places Klein Wölkau, Groß Wölkau (spelling at that time) and Boyda merged to form the municipality of Wölkau. On January 1, 1995, Wölkau merged with four other communities to form the community of Schönwölkau. Attractions

  • Church in Großwölkau

The Gellert Church in Großwölkau dates from the 12th century. This is where the superintendents of the Eilenburg parish had their seat for decades, as most of the parish and therefore the best salary was here. The poet Christian Fürchtegott Gellert stayed several times in the parish garden of Großwölkau. He was a frequent guest at Schönwölkau Palace.

  • Church in Kleinwölkau

The current ruins of the patronage church in Kleinwölkau dates from 1680 to 1688. It was built by the Vitzthum von Eckstädt family under the master builder Georg Steinböck from Dresden. Renovations took place in 1705, 1775, 1836, 1844 and 1905. In 1969 the vault collapsed and made the church unusable, renovation was not carried out in GDR times. In 1994 the church tower was renovated, financed by private donations.

  • Wölkau Castle

The manor used to be on the site of today's castle in Kleinwölkau. This was acquired in 1659 by Christoph Vitzthum von Eckstädt , who had a manor house built there. The castle has a square floor plan with a three-storey central building and smaller side wings, and there is also an orangery. During the GDR era, there were various uses, for example the area was part of the VEG Wölkau , where seeds were produced, and VEG workers lived in the servants' apartments in the east and west wings. The middle wing, however, was used as a cultural center. The castle is now privately owned and is in ruins.

To the south of the castle there is a 15 hectare park and there are also two ponds.

  • Pharmacy with furnishings from around 1900
