history

The round village of Göritz in the floodplain of the Leinebach was first mentioned in 1222 as "Gericz". The manor house in the village was probably destroyed in the Thirty Years War and rebuilt in 1725.

Until 1815 Göritz belonged as an exclave to the electoral office of Delitzsch . The town was surrounded by the Eilenburg office in the north, east and south and the Lindenhayn exclave of the Bitterfeld office in the west . Through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the Delitzsch office came to Prussia in 1815. As a result, Göritz was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which the place belonged until 1952.

On July 1, 1950, Göritz was incorporated into Krippehna to the east. During the district reform in the GDR , Göritz came to the newly formed district of Eilenburg in the Leipzig district as a district of Krippehna in 1952 . On January 1, 1974, Krippehna and Göritz were incorporated into Naundorf , but on March 14, 1990 it was once again spun off as an independent rural community. During the district reform of the Free State of Saxony in 1994, Göritz came to the Delitzsch district , which was added to the Northern Saxony district in 2008.

When the large community of Zschepplin was formed on January 1, 1999, Krippehna became a district of Zschepplin. Göritz was reclassified to Schönwölkau . Since then, Göritz has been part of the village of Wölkau. The Göritzer manor house was renovated in the 1990s and is currently used for horse keeping and equestrian sports.
