The EuroVelo Route 2 (Capital Route) , also known internationally as The Capitals Route , is a European long-distance cycle route . It runs for about 5,500 kilometers from Galway , Ireland to Moscow in Russia. This west-east route runs through seven countries: Ireland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia and passes through their capitals .

Routing

Ireland

The Irish part of the EV2 is not yet finished and only partially passable.

The route corresponds to the Dublin-Galway- Greenway and leads, among other things, west of Mullingar on a former railway line and along the Royal Canal .

Great Britain

In Great Britain, the route from Holyhead ( Anglesey ) runs on the National Route NCR8 through Wales and the Welsh capital Cardiff . The English part is on the National Cycle Route NCR4. Between Bristol and Bath on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path , a railway cycle route. The trail then follows the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading and on the Thames Path Cycle route to London . After crossing the London harbor district, the route runs north to the Harwich ferry terminal .

Netherlands

In the Netherlands, the EV2 runs on Landelijke Fietsroutes . On the LF4 from The Hague to Borculo and then on the LF8 to Zwillbrock on the German border.

Germany

In Germany, the EV2 runs on D-Route 3 . This leads over 960 kilometers from Vreden-Zwillbrock on the Dutch border to Küstrin-Kietz on the Polish border.

Poland

In Poland, the EV2 is currently still being planned and not yet implemented. Completion should take place between 2017 and 2020. The route will pass through Poznan , Włocławek and Warsaw , as well as through various national parks, including the Białowieski National Park .

Belarus

The Belarusian part of EV2 is also at the planning stage. It will run through the Białowieski National Park and the capital Minsk .

Russia

The route in Russia is currently under construction. It leads about 650 km from Smolensk to Moscow .
