Kang Seul-gi ( kor . : 강 슬기, Hanja : 康瑟琪; born February 10, 1994 in Ansan , Gyeonggi-do , South Korea ), better known under the mononym Seulgi , is a South Korean singer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet .

Early life and education

Seulgi was born on February 10, 1994 in Ansan , Gyeonggi-do , South Korea . She attended Ansan Byeolmang Middle School and the School of Performing Arts in Seoul . She can speak both Korean and Japanese.

Career

Before the debut: SM rookies

Seulgi started her training at SM Entertainment in 2007 . In December 2013 she and her bandmates Irene and Wendy were introduced to the public as a new member of the SM Entertainment training team SM Rookies .

In July 2014 Seulgi had a feature on Henry Lau's song Butterfly from his second EP Fantastic , and was featured in the music video for the single of the same name.

2014-present: Red Velvet and solo activities

Seulgi made her official debut with Red Velvet on August 1, 2014 with the digital single Happiness .

In January 2015 she played the lead role of Dorothy in the SM Entertainment Musical School Oz . From April to May she was part of the JTBC TV show Off to School .

In July 2016, she and Wendy released the song Don't Push Me as part of the soundtrack of the KBS2 drama Uncontrollably Fond . In October 2016, Seulgi was a candidate for King of Mask Singer under the pseudonym Cinema Heaven .

On November 18, she released the song You, Just Like That, composed by Yoon Sang, as the theme music for Blade & Soul . On December 30th, Seulgi released the song Sound of Your Heart for SM Station together with her bandmate Wendy and other artists from SM Entertainment .

In January 2017 she and Wendy released the song You're the Only One I See for the soundtrack of the KBS2 drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth . Together with Yesung ( Super Junior ) she released the duet Darling U for SM Station on January 22nd .

Furthermore, took on the project Seulgi SM station X 0 of SM Entertainment in part, together with Soyeon of (G) I-DLE , Chungha and SINB of GFriend . Her song Wow Thing was released on September 28, 2018.
