Kim Chan-mi ( Korean 김찬미 ; born February 9, 1996 in South Korea ), also known by her stage name Chungha, is a South Korean pop singer who is under contract with MNH Entertainment. She became famous through their participation in the talent show "Produce 101" and as a member of girl group I.OI . She has performed as a solo artist since 2017.
life and career
Born in South Korea, Kim Chung-ha lived in Dallas , Texas , USA as a child for eight years before returning to South Korea to become a singer. She sang for YG Entertainment , among others , before becoming a trainee at JYP Entertainment in 2012 . After three years, she left JYP and became a trainee at MNH Entertainment in 2016. She is currently studying dance at Sejong University in Seoul.
2016: Produce 101, IOI and TV activities
From January to April 2016 Chungha participated in the Mnet - talent show part "101 Produce". In the show, 101 trainees fought to become part of an eleven-member girl group . Chungha finished the show in 4th place and became a member of the temporary group IOI . The group debuted on May 4th with the EP Chrysalis . She was also part of IOI's sub-unit and developed the choreography for the single Whatta Man .
Chungha also had a cameo appearance on the TV series Entourage with Nayoung from IOI . The series aired on tvN in November and December . Chungha was also a participant in the dance show "Hit the Stage", which was broadcast from July to September.
On December 21st, MNH Entertainment announced that Chungha would make her debut as a solo artist after the breakup of IOI. The group last appeared on the TV show "Section TV" on January 29, 2017 and broke up after this appearance.
2017: debut as a solo artist
Chungha co-hosted the EBS fitness show "A Running Miracle," which started on January 22nd and ran for seven weeks.
After IOI broke up, Chungha returned to MNH Entertainment and began preparing for her solo debut. On April 21st, the pre-release Single Week was released on the MNH Entertainment YouTube channel. Chungha made her official debut as a solo artist on June 7th with the EP Hands on Me and the single Why Don't You Know .
In September, Chungha became a radio DJ on the EBS show "Listen". Also in September it was announced that she would be the presenter of the program “Please Take Care of My Vanity” on FashionN.
On November 22nd, the first episode of Chungha's reality show "Chungha's Free Month" aired.
2018 – today: Offset and Blooming Blue
On January 17, 2018, Chungha's second EP Offset was released together with the single Rollercoaster . In early June, MNH Entertainment released the singer's official logo and colors. Chungha's fan club name was also announced: "Byulharang". The third EP Blooming Blue was released on July 16, along with the single Luv U.
Furthermore, took on the project Chungha SM station X 0 of SM Entertainment in part, together with Seulgi of Red Velvet , Soyeon of (G) I-DLE and SINB of GFriend . Her song Wow Thing was released on September 28, 2018.
On January 2, 2019, Chungha released the single album XII together with the single Gotta Go ( 벌써 12 시 ) . With Gotta Go she achieved her first victory at a music show.
