The 21st Mnet Asian Music Awards took place on December 4th, 2019 in the Japanese city of Nagoya . Due to the ongoing protests in Hong Kong , the event was not held in Hong Kong for the first time in seven years . In September 2019, Nagoya in Japan was announced as the venue, which, however, led to negative reactions due to the political tensions between South Korea and Japan.
The event was moderated by the actor Park Bo-gum , whose approval the organizers only received on December 2, 2019. The reason here was also the current situation in both countries.
The motto of the Mnet Asian Music Awards this year was The NEXT DIMENSION: MUSIC .
