The EuroVelo  5 - Via Romea (Francigena) route is a European long-distance cycle route . It leads about 3900 kilometers from London over the Alps to the Italian port city of Brindisi . The name comes from the Latin name Via Romea Francigena , which means something like "The way to Rome that comes from France". This north-south route runs through seven countries: Great Britain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
