The EuroVelo route EV1 ( Atlantic Coast Route ) , also known internationally as the Atlantic Coast Route , is a European long-distance cycle route . It leads about 8186 kilometers from the North Cape to Sagres in Portugal. This north-south route runs mainly along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and through six countries: Norway, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal.

Routing

In Norway

The route leads from the North Cape via Tromsø , Vestvågøy , Bodø , Trondheim , Ålesund to Bergen .

In scotland

From Aberdeen via Inverness and Glasgow to Stranraer . In Aberdeen and Inverness there is a connection to the EV12. The Scottish part of the route is laid out and with EuroVelo signs.

In Ireland

The route, which is mostly not signposted as a EuroVelo route, leads from Belfast via Galway (here connection to the EV2 ), Limerick , Cork , Waterford to Rosslare .

In Wales and England

The Welsh section runs from Fishguard to Cardiff . In England the route leads via Bristol (connection to the EV2), Plymouth .

In England, the EV1 follows the Devon Coast to Coast route ( National Route 27) and the Tarka Trail .

In France

In France, the EV1 is signposted as Vélodyssée . The EV1 follows for 1210 km from Roscoff via Nantes , La Rochelle and Arcachon to Hendaye along the Atlantic coast. The route of the EV1 in Brittany mostly follows the voie verte along the Nantes-Brest Canal , while in Aquitaine it follows the greenway along the coast in the Landes de Gascogne .

In Spain

Course of the route from Pamplona via Burgos , Salamanca , Merida to Ayamonte .

In Portugal

The route runs from Vila Real de Santo António via Faro to Sagres .
