Nelly Wicky

Nelly Wicky-Rosset (born March 2, 1923 in Le Petit-Saconnex ; † January 27, 2020 in Onex ; resident in Geneva ) was a Swiss politician ( PdA ) and one of the first women to join the National Council in 1971 after the introduction of women's suffrage were chosen. There she represented the Swiss Labor Party of the Canton of Geneva . In 1975 she was not re-elected because her party lost a seat in Geneva. From 1963 to 1991 she was a member of the Municipal Council (city parliament) of Geneva. From 1978 to 1988 she was a member of the Central Committee of the PdA Switzerland.

Nelly Wicky studied education at the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute in Geneva, where she was a student of Jean Piaget . In 1948 she married the PdA councilor Robert Wicky and had two children. The feminist activist worked as a primary school teacher in Meyrin and then at various schools in the canton. She campaigned politically for the right to abortion, against the criminalization of conscientious objectors and for maternity insurance - at that time with very little success.

She died in January 2020 at the age of 96 in her retirement home in Onex in the canton of Geneva.
