Nenad Čanak

Nenad Čanak (born November 2, 1959 in Pančevo ) is a Serbian politician. He is co-founder of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina and has been its chairman since it was founded in 1990. He advocates regionalism , pacifism and liberalism . He is a member of the Serbian National Assembly and chairs the Committee on European Integration.

Life

Čanak grew up in a family of professors. His father Milan Čanak (1932–1980) was a professor of agriculture at the University of Novi Sad . 1973/74 he was also mayor of Novi Sad . His mother Bosiljka Čanak was a professor of mathematics. Nenad Čanak attended the grammar school named after Jovan Jovanović Zmaj and the higher music school in Novi Sad. He then studied economics at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Novi Sad in Subotica .

From 1982 to 1985 he earned his living playing the flute in Kafanas (roughly: "Kaschemmen") in Vojvodina . Then worked as head of foreign trade marketing at Naftagas . In 1989 he further specialized in network marketing in an academy Brdo pri Kranju and then switched to YUTEL .

During the Croatian war he was taken to the front as an opposition member by the Serbian regime in the autumn of 1991, where he was registered as a "volunteer". He served around Ilok ; In order to fight the fear of death , he made music with his comrades Chetnik songs. At the beginning of Operation Allied Force eight years later, he volunteered but was not mobilized.

In the parliamentary elections of 1997 he was elected as a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on the list of Koalicija Vojvodina . However, on December 7, 1998, he and two of his colleagues were removed from office.

In the presidential election in Serbia 2017 , he achieved just over 41,000 votes (1.1%).

Political positions

Čanak has advocated pacifism throughout his political career . Consequently, since the end of the Yugoslav wars , he has been one of the leading figures in promoting lustration legislation against war criminals.
