Nencho Stajkov

Nentscho Stajkow (also written Nencho Staykov or Staikow , Bulgarian Ненчо Стайков ; born December 19, 1955 in Varna , Bulgaria) is a former Bulgarian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Nentcho Stajkov, had an internationally relevant result for the first time with sixth place in the Tour of Bulgaria in 1975. Three years later, in 1978, he was able to win the national tour at home (a success that he was able to repeat in 1980 and 1984). A year later, he was able to win the first stage of the International Peace Tour and win the leader's yellow jersey, which he wore six times in his twelve participations. In 1984 he managed another stage win, which in turn earned him the top jersey. He was among the top ten drivers in the overall classification three times: in 1984 he was second, in 1979 he came in seventh, in 1985 it was 10th. 1982 and 1983 he was Bulgarian road racing champion, 1978, 1982 and 1984 he won the title in the individual time trial .

In 1984 another title was added in the pair time trial . He was at the start several times at the UCI World Championships . The 10th place in 1979 in the road race was his best result. With the team he reached 8th place in 1979. In 1984 he won another stage race with the Tour of Turkey . In 1980 he participated in the Summer Olympics in Moscow for Bulgaria . In the road race, however, he was eliminated, in the team time trial his team took sixth place. In 1986 he was able to win the Tour de Normandie in France . He won the Balkan Championship in 1984 with the Bulgarian team in the team time trial. The most important race after the Tour of Bulgaria, the stage trip from Sofia to Varna, Stajkov won in 1981, 1983, 1986 and 1987. Stajkov was active as a professional driver in Portugal in 1990 and 1991 . He then ended his career.

Professional

Stajkow completed training as a sports teacher. After his active career, he worked for several years as a manager for Portuguese teams, and until 2008 he was one of the team leaders of the Portuguese UCI Continental Team Duja / Tavira .

Familiar

Stajkow is the nephew of Nentcho Christow , who won the International Peace Tour in 1957.
